Dear Career and Technical Educators,

I hope that all of you are off to a fantastic start to the school year. As this year’s NACTE president, I wanted to take a brief moment to introduce myself and my vision for NACTE to the NACTE members and Career and Technical Educators who were not able to attend this year’s conference. For those of you who do not know me, I have been teaching for 15 years for the Clark County School District and I am currently the community partnership coordinator at Southwest Career and Technical Academy.

My vision or goals for NACTE this year focus on the following areas:

Increase new membership

Provide opportunities for members to be more active in NACTE through committees and professional development

Utilize social media to network, provide information on advocacy, and inform members of professional development opportunities relevant to career and technical teachers

Create a state-based leadership fellowship program to develop the future leaders of NACTE and CTE in Nevada

Advocate for CTE and its importance legislators and elected officials

CTE is my passion, as I am sure it is yours. Together, we can focus on this vision and expand the NACTE community and its impact on career and technical education in Nevada. If you are an existing NACTE member, I thank you for supporting NACTE and I hope you encourage your peers to become members. If you are not a member, I encourage you to learn more about NACTE and become a member by visiting www.nacteonline.org. The biggest benefactors of a NACTE membership are not the educators who are members, but are the students of those teachers who are members. The opportunities professional development, networking, and advocacy for CTE have a direct impact on the students of NACTE members.

(l-R) President-Elect: Craig Statucki, Past-President: Kelli Compton, President: Terry Ertman

As Past President I wanted to express that I have thoroughly enjoyed serving in this office and take with me so many meaningful memories of working with a group of committed individuals who just want to make CTE better for all of us and our students. The board’s accomplishments this year are many but the following stand out – we are in the process of hiring an Executive Director, we have entered into a partnership with West CTA DECA to handle our new Twitter and Facebook accounts, we are also in the process of developing a new website, and we continue to be a ACTE Quality Association Award Winner. It was a busy year! The experience has increased my leadership, organizational, and overall professional skills. I am truly humbled and honored by the experience. I encourage all of you to step up and get more involved in NACTE, you won’t regret it.
